Lynn A. Samsel is the former (retired) Director of Humanitarian Services, Emergency Response, and Community Services for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Samsel also was Vice President of Latter Day Saint Charities. The Church has provided humanitarian aid in 179 countries regardless of religious, cultural or political boundaries.
Mr. Samsel previously worked as Director of Services and Director of Operations for the Community Services Council, which became Utah Food Bank Services, a private non-profit humanitarian organization. Prior to this, he worked for the State of Utah, Department of Human Services for 31 years as director of a variety of human service programs, including:
Associate Director of Aging and Adult Services
Associate Director of Community Operations
Director of Salt Lake County Human Services
Director of Child and Family Services
Mr. Samsel has served on numerous private agency boards and in community volunteer service assignments, including services to children, youth, families, the elderly and for people with disabilities.
He is currently serving as a board member and chair of the Utah Region of the American Red Cross and an executive board member of the Applied Technology Foundation.
He holds the following degrees:
MASTER OF SCIENCES, University of Utah, Human Resource Management and Administration
BACHELOR OF ARTS, Brigham Young University, International Relations and Spanish (composite major)
He is married to Kathleen Zornes Samsel. They are the parents of four children and 14 grandchildren.
